DO THE RIGHT THING
A CIELO ABIERTO
2023 / 117 min / color
Two years after the tragic death of their father in a car accident, teenage brothers Fernando and Salvador both feel the need to reckon with the event. Together with their half-sister, they get into a jeep that belongs to their stepfather and head for the border separating Mexico and the United States. The girl is unaware of the true goal these young angry heroes have in mind: the desire to find the truck driver responsible for the fatal accident and bring him to justice – following the eye-for-an-eye principle. Full of tension and unexpected twists and turns, the journey will be an opportunity for them to face their fears, find out how strong a bond they have with each other, and also try to come to terms with their painful loss. A combination of thriller, road movie, and coming-of-age tale, Upon Open Sky is a story about a family, made by a family. The script was written back in the 1990s by Guillermo Arriaga, known for example for his fruitful collaboration with Alejandro González Iñárritu. As for the direction, it was undertaken by his children Mariana and Santiago, for whom this is a feature debut.
