NAJSREKJNIOT CHOVEK NA SVETOTN

2022 / 100 min/ color

The protagonist of the new film by acclaimed Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska is Asja, who lives in Sarajevo. A legal advisor in her forties, she yearns for true love to give her a sense of fulfillment. Encouraged by her mother, Asja goes to a speed-dating event in her hometown. She meets Zoran, a seemingly stable banker, who’s actually hiding the real reason he’s there. A love game full of ambivalence begins between the two of them. It’s a story full of mystery, heightened feelings, and unhealed wounds from a painful past. In the director’s own words, “This is a story about the precariousness of life, about chance encounters that bring together aggressor and victim, reviving a painful past; this is a story about impossible connections, about love and absurdity.” The film’s location, a brutalist hotel from the 1980s that was a silent witness to the difficult history of the former Yugoslavia, brings an added layer of meaning to the film.
