THE FEELING THAT THE TIME FOR DOING SOMETHING HAS PASSED
2023 / 88 min / color
Joanna Arnow’s debut feature, highly acclaimed at Cannes and numerous other festivals, is an auteur project by a director who not only worked on both sides of the camera (writing, directing, editing, and playing the lead role) but also based the story on her personal experiences. Ann, a 30-year-old New Yorker, finds herself at a turning point in life. She’s not particularly interested in her daily work, she’s tired of her relationship routine, plus she’s constantly at odds with her controlling parents. Maybe the time has come to finally say “enough,” think about herself, and take responsibility for her own life? This new path is not an easy one — it’s full of the absurdities of everyday life as well as elements of, well, BDSM. Arnow’s film is a brilliant, satirical portrait of a generation of aging and somewhat frustrated millennials. An honest, humorous story about trying to find yourself while dealing with the chaos of everyday life
