Maciek (played by Tomasz Kot) has his life turned completely upside down by a mysterious car accident. His wife Janina (Karolina Gruszka) dies in the crash. There’s strong evidence that she may have committed suicide, but Maciej has no idea why the accident happened near Mrągowo, when Janina said she was going to Kraków on a business trip. Did she make an honest mistake or did she deliberately mislead him? He sets off on a desperate journey to find out more about the circumstances of her death. He soon comes across an actor named Wojnar (Grzegorz Damięcki), who he suspects of having an affair with his late wife. At this point, the questions start to multiply and a tragedy turns into a complicated puzzle, to the point that it dawns on Maciej that he may have never really known the woman he was married to for so many years. Bartosz Konopka’s new film is based on the bestselling novel by Wojciech Chmielarz. It skilfully combines the conventions of different genres: the psychological drama, the thriller and — unusually for a Polish movie — the buddy film. Konopka tells a story about masculinity in crisis and difficulty with communication, especially in the context of talking about feelings and trying to rebuild a sense of reality.
