NORWEGIAN DREAM

2023 / 97 min / color

The protagonist of Norwegian director Leiv Devold’s film is 19-year-old Robert (played by Hubert Miłkowski), who moves to Norway to pay off his family’s debts. He leads the life of a typical migrant worker, spending most of the day working in a salmon factory, and socializing afterwards with other Polish workers. That’s where he meets Ivar. Robert tries to hide his growing feelings for his colleague in order to maintain his social position and avoid becoming an outcast. Then a strike is organized at the factory and he’s faced with a serious dilemma – become a scab to save his family, or join Ivar in the protest? A graduate of the directing program of the Łódź Film School, Devold juxtaposes the fragile feelings that develop between the two men within the harsh, hostile environment in which they have to function every day. Set against the brutal realities of economic migration and the lack of respect for workers’ rights, Norwegian Dream is a story about the search for identity and the cost of being true to yourself.
