PLUS QUE JAMAIS

Hélène and Mathieu have been in a happy relationship for many years; they share a deep bond based on mutual trust and respect. But Hélène has terminal lung disease; she’s only 33 years old and death is drawing closer every day. She does her best to lead a normal life with her family and friends, but there comes a time when she feels the need to make a radical change. She needs space to put everything that’s happening to her in perspective, so she embarks on a solo trip to Norway. There, amidst the harsh, majestic natural landscape, she tries to find peace and make sense of the cacophony of thoughts swirling around in her head. Rather than just a test of her relationship, for Hélène the trip becomes a kind of farewell on her own terms. Emily Atef’s moving film, anchored by a superb performance by Vicky Krieps, is a beautiful, subtle tale about the need to control your own destiny. There was a painful epilogue to the story when news broke of the tragic death of Gaspard Ulliel, the French actor who plays Mathieu. This was his final acting role.
