The plot of the film by gifted Turkish director Selman Nacar unfolds over less than 24 hours. Canan, the protagonist, has this short amount of time to make a moral choice that will significantly affect both her personal and professional life. She’s a lawyer specializing in criminal cases who divides her time between the courtroom and the hospital where her sick mother lies. As the time approaches when a verdict is announced in the case of Canan’s client — who’s accused of committing murder — things get increasingly tense. Hesitation Wound is a gripping courtroom drama centered around issues of justice and morality. These themes are no accident — they have fascinated the director since he studied law himself. The film won awards at festivals in Zurich and Brussels, and provokes a reflection on the value systems that people are guided by on a daily basis, while also showing the consequences of a decision once it’s been made.
