The legendary Ben-Hur comes back

The talks on a remake of a legendary film from 1959 with Charlton Heston in the main role have just begun.

Timur Bekmambetow, the director of such hits as “Wanted” (2008) or “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” (2012). Sean Daniel and Joni Levin (“The Mummy”, “The Way Back”) are to produce the film.

The plot is to focus on the period of Ben-Hur’s life preceding the original picture from 1959. A young Jewish prince, Juda Ben-Hur, will face an old childhood friend, Messala, who comes back to Jerusalem after having spent many years in the Roman army only to betray his compatriots. The script is based on a 19th-century novel by Lewis Wallace under the same title. The premiere date of the film has not been revealed yet.
